why creativity is a necessary part for hubspot specialist

Mary B.

Do you know what core competencies a HubSpot developer should have to run both easy and complex projects?
Let’s talk about it.

On most Upwork job posts or general job boards, you’ll find the usual list of skills required for a HubSpot specialist:
— HubL knowledge
— CMS development
— Understanding of workflows
— Integrations
— Marketing automation
— Content structure and SEO basics

Sounds familiar, right?
But is that enough?

Of course not.

Whether you’re a developer or a content manager (and by the way, we help clients hire for both roles), you need something unique to highlight your strongest sides. And no — I’m not talking about upgrading to a paid ChatGPT plan 😄
I’m talking about creativity.

Creativity vs. Standard Solutions

For almost every task, there are at least two ways to solve it:

  1. The standard way — the one everyone expects.

  2. The creative or lateral way — the one that requires you to think beyond the obvious.

“Thinking outside the box” was a buzzword in the early 2000s, but in reality, it’s still exactly what clients want:
They want to see that you’ve used all your possible and even “impossible” resources to find the best solution for their project.

Creativity takes time. It’s an effort you need to practice constantly, not something that appears magically one day.

Personally, my creative thinking has helped me not only deliver tasks but achieve noticeably better results and attract clients who value problem-solvers rather than button-pushers.

Examples of Creativity in HubSpot

Here are a few ways creativity shows up in real HubSpot projects:

  1. Smart module structure — instead of building 5 similar modules for different layouts, create one flexible module with conditionals and repeater fields to give the content team full control.

  2. Multilingual UX improvements — using language switchers that reflect country-language structure (e.g., Schweiz – Deutsch / Français / English) instead of the default dropdown.

  3. Creative CRM routing — combining company- and contact-based CRM structures for hybrid B2B nurturing, rather than picking one hybrid model.

  4. Reusing existing tools — for example, using pop-up forms with smart rules to personalize CTAs for returning visitors without building a new page.

  5. Automation hacks — integrating reCAPTCHA v3 instead of puzzle or using workflows creatively to enrich lead data.

These are not tricks — they’re thoughtful ways to get better results with the same platform everyone else is using.

How to Start Practicing Creativity Today

If creativity doesn’t come naturally yet, here’s a simple daily practice to train it:

  1. Stop. Look at one point for 2–5 minutes. Clear your head.

  2. Ask yourself: “Is there another way to do this part?”. If the answer is potentially yes but you’re not sure — Google it.

  3. Sketch it. Take a piece of paper and draw what you’re doing now, plus at least two alternative ways — even if they seem “impossible.”

  4. Evaluate. Could any of these bring better results than the standard way?

  5. Act. If yes — maybe it’s time to try it.

This habit slowly builds a creative “muscle” that will show in your daily HubSpot work.

Final Thoughts

Creativity is not a bonus — it’s a core competency that can set you apart as a HubSpot specialist. It’s what transforms a regular project into a smart, efficient, and scalable solution that clients remember.
